WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR A TILING NOVICE?
When installing bathroom tiles, we find that remembering the “5 Ps” will set you in good stead ahead of your bathroom installation project – Proper Preparation Precedes Perfect Performance! We’d recommend spending about a third of the time set aside for tiling on prep work, making sure your bathroom surfaces are ready for tiling. Don’t forget, if you require any advice when implementing your dream bathroom design, our bathroom tiles experts are on hand to speak to on 01737 767 831.
I’VE BOUGHT MY TILES, ADHESIVE AND GROUT. NOW WHAT?
Don’t lay a single tile until you are certain you know exactly where every tile should be placed in your bathroom design. Find your centre line and make sure you are aware where each and every cut is needed. Best practice would be to check, and then check again, just to make sure all is well.
HELP! I’VE USED THE WRONG GROUT!
Don’t panic! Although not an ideal situation, grout can be removed without having to take out the bathroom tiles altogether. For the best-looking bathrooms, it’s advisable to remove as much of the unwanted grout as possible to avoid discolouring. We’d recommend using a grout rake, available from DIY stores local to Oxted.
I’M LOOKING TO TRANSFORM AN UNUSED SPACE INTO A WETROOM, WHICH TILES SHOULD I USE?
We have a range of tiles with high anti-slip ratings, that prove ideal for bathrooms and wetrooms alike. Come to our showroom, just down the road from Oxted in Reigate, and we can show you the many options we have for all types of bathroom installation. As an added bonus, our showroom has free parking, just one part of our “extra special” customer service!
I WANT TO TILE A SHOWER OR A WETROOM. WHAT SHOULD I BE CONSIDERING?
Firstly, don’t assume that all the adhesive and grout you’re using for your bathroom installation project is waterproof or will provide adequate protection in wet areas. Prevention is better than a cure, and with the mess, stress and expenses associated with water damage, it’s best to correctly prepare your surfaces. Using either a membrane (matting) or a 2-part paint-on system (tanking) are the most effective ways to ensure tiling in Oxted bathrooms is impermeable, used in conjunction with a waterproof seal. This also helps your bathroom design comply with recent legislation that requires “wet areas” to be fully tanked and waterproofed.
HOW DO I CLEAN GROUT?
For the best results, pick up a grout cleaning product from an Oxted DIY store and use an abrasive sponge on the area. Use it on small areas rather than trying to take on your entire bathroom installation at once. Grout is porous so bacteria can stick around even after cleaning, which is the main reason for unsightly mould growth ruining your beautiful bathroom tiles. It’s always advisable to add a grout sealer after cleaning for retaining long-lasting colouration.
